Vapour Trails in the Blue. By Mark Le Clair. (105,000 words). Lyle Heapy, a philosopher and a painter, is 40 when he flies out of Gatwick Airport and back to Spain to continue his life there. With little money in the bank and a mysterious message from his friend Viv in his pocket he sets off not knowing quite what awaits him. He was unaware that the car journey from the Spanish airport to the small village of Tolmuner would take three days instead of one hour. He was certainly unaware of the magnitude of the crisis before him. When he eventually finds Cheryl she is no longer the young charismatic beauty she was before. She seems to be at death's door. Her athletic partner seems to be going slowly mad. Lyle struggles with the situation. His friend Viv who gave him a lift from the airport has since driven off the road and down a rock face. Another friend is nearly dead having supposedly 'fallen' down a flight of stairs. In a drunken haze Lyle decides if anything can be done to save Cheryl it has to be done now. Finding an old Dormobile he sets off to rescue Cheryl, practically kidnapping her, and picks up an old friend Percy who may be next on the hit list, as Cheryl's mad partner owes him a lot of money. But can Lyle get them all to safety and out of the Madman's clutches?
