What to do if you have written a manuscript,
(And would like to have it published
...)
Send your first two or three chapters
(or
scenes) and
the last chapter or scene of your work in the post with a SAE to the
address below. Please
include your Writers
C.V. (if you have one). Each page of your work should carry the page number, Issue
reference, your surname and the (possibly short form) title.
If you have any way to advertize or direct
sell your work please tell us as these things help to interest publishers.
Hints:- Please print out the chapters noted above and
re-read
them a week or so later before sending them to us. It is strange but
the printed text often reads differently to that shown on the screen. I
don't know why, but it does. You may wish to revise
them to take account of:
Strong believable Characters.
The "all seeing eye" descriptive
element; Can you visual the scene from your writing?
Names that are easy to pronounce.
Consistency of the dialogue.
Continuity of the story.
The "Story Hook," please make sure there
always is one!
Most novels have to be re-written at least three times (yours might be
the exception) to make
them work. Maybe ask a friend to read your work This is a good test because if you
do not feel happy for them to read it may not be saleable in its present
form.

for Writers for other ideas.
What we offer:
Many writers have suffered in the past as the result of a badly worded
Publisher's contract. These are long documents and there is no
"standard" contract. One point to be careful about is any reference
to your future books. Film contracts are much longer than Book
contracts (some are the length of a book) and they need special attention.
(Beware for example "film makers expenses" which can be extremely
numerous: Director's car hire, Catering bills, Airfares to meet the stars ...), making any profitable film look like a loss
maker). An agent should help you
to avoid the numerous pitfalls in such contracts.
Publishing your first book can be hard, but getting it to sell in the bookshops
can also be difficult. A good agent will help you with this; as getting your second book
published often depends on how well the sales of your first book went...
How
Star Writers works ...
We will read it!!! (No fee).
We will then advise you if we would like to see the complete manuscript.
While many agents do not charge a fee for reading
your manuscript the sad fact is that most of them only read the first
part.
(That is why they make no charge ... ). Few Agencies have time to read it all,
and they operate by rejecting 98% of all submissions. We will read it all.
(We have selected readers with vast literary knowledge who do this). But it does take
time, at least three hours for a 120 page screenplay and at least
nine hours
for a 360 page novel. We thus ask for a small fee of thirty five pounds for reading
screenplays, and a token forty-five pounds fee for reading all novels. This fee
is refunded once the novel is published.
If sections need re-writing we will advise you of
this and help you with it. Like most Literary Agencies
we offer good sound editorial assistance of the highest quality. (See our
"Services" link to the left of the page).
We will then ask you to write a Treatment or a Chapter-by-Chapter
outline; or we will write it for you. (See our Services
link).
We will then approach suitable Publishers to see if they are interested and negotiate
on your behalf. All correspondence from the publishers will be copied to
you. No offer will be accepted without your consent.
(Formats we use include: Microsoft "Word",
"Dramatica", "Story-view" and
"Screenwriter 2000").
