NOVELS

Points for writers:

bulletIt is cheaper to print a novel than make a film!
bulletSo it is easier to sell ...
bulletThere are more ways to express ideas than  a screenplay script offers.

Unfortunately it is not so easy to write a good, exciting, spell binding novel as most people would think. It takes a lot of time (Sometimes years, although some professional writers are often writing three books at once, (or trying to) completing each one in about six months). It takes a lot of skill to keep the reader "hooked." (Well, hopefully there will be millions of readers!). While your story may gel nicely the text may often need several revisions to make it realistic and believable. Some subjects require very careful handling, such as sex and religious beliefs to name but two. (Too much gratuitous sex in the first few pages will put the reader off; and sexual actions which seem unrealistic will leave the reader cold and distracted).

But, if you can write a good novel it could make you a lot of money; and provide a way of life that is extremely pleasant. Also, once you are established, you can write anywhere in the world.
